I’ve installed Debian on an older Acer notebook recently; the installation was finished normally but then the system hanged during the boot with message: “ACPI: Core revision 20060707”.
The solution was to add
acpi=off to the grub.
For permanent effect you can do the following:
# nano /etc/default/grub
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi=off"
Please note, disabling ACPI may lead to overheating of your computer.
The message might be a little bit misleading, for me unhooking external USB drivers, while booting, and connecting them back, when system was fully booted, resolved this problem.
