Movie: The Guard

Comedy, Crime, Thriller | John Michael McDonagh | Ireland | 2011 | IMDB

An unorthodox Irish policeman with a confrontational personality is teamed up with an uptight FBI agent to investigate an international drug-smuggling ring.

I say occasionally funny, interesting character, fairly good acting, politically incorrect, average and predictable story.

Furthermore the film is politically incorrect, including: hookers, drugs… The distinction of obvious good-vs-bad is filled with shades of gray, and that’s a real joy for me to see. I suppose this was the biggest plus of the movie actually.

Beside that, two things draw my attention: 1. Katarina Čas (Slovene actor), whose acting left me with mixed feelings, 2. the fact that it’s an Irish movie. Since I was living in Ireland for a while, I found it charming in its own way.

The down side is the story, which tends to stay fairly average, predictable and occasionally disconnected.
