Movie: The Last Starfighter

Action, Adventure, Family | Nick Castle | USA | 1984 | IMDB

A video-gaming boy, seemingly doomed to stay at his trailer park home all his life, finds himself recruited as a gunner for an alien defense force.

I say don’t be fooled by the official genre stated above, – this movie is, intentionally and unintentionally, first of all and above all, pure comedy! Don’t get me wrong though, it’s a lovely retro film, with great 80’s Sci-Fi look.

The story is very simple and straightforward, no complexity or depth. It reminded me of good old days, when there could be movies which haven’t had an obvious political backbone.

The characters function well together and you get the feeling that, although everything on emotional level is hilariously simplified, they respect and care for each other.

The movie leave you with a peaceful state of mind and positive emotions. I’d call it silly, in a nice way, I’d call most of the modern movies of similar genre, disturbingly stupid and hollow. There’s a big difference.
